The younger generation knows best

Din ciclul de eseuri la limba engleza.

Since it exists, the younger generation has been a problem for the society. People always had problems with understanding and accepting the innovation of the new generation. Because of the development of the human kind, the younger generation always had to be one step forward. It always adapted easy to new ideas, techniques, and conditions. Today the young are better educated, have more money, enjoy freedom and are less dependent on their parents. This is possible because of the amount of information available today and the easiness of accessing it. Parents play a smaller role in the future of the youth, being considered outdated. It is hard for the youth now to accept the ideas of the older generation, they rather find out themselves. Because of the accelerated evolution of technology, the differences between the old and the young generations go deeper. Youth is always up to date with the latest discoveries and ideas. And it is easy for them to understand and use them, since they are at an age when it is very easy to learn new things.

But this easiness of understanding the new has to compete with the experience of the old generation. Having a lifetime experience gives the old generation the right to say they know best, but this depends what they refer to. Yes, they know better how to behave in different situations, they understand life better, and they do have ideas based on their own experience. But the young always question the values and assumptions of the old generation. With no experience to cover for them, they can’t always see what respecting a value means. The youth lives in a society created by the old and it would be a mistake trying to change it. Even if their thoughts are visionaries, the old are those who know the way things work. The new generation tries to create an environment suitable for their needs and pleasures. This determines them to reject conformity and take the lead of their life. They enjoy freedom and forget about responsibility until they hit their first problem. That is the moment they start thinking more and doing less. The gap between generations raises many questions and problems. The best way to solve them is not violence, but communication. It is always hard to talk to someone who doesn’t understand you, but it is there, in that dialogue, where you show your abilities. The old may seem to be unhappy, to search happiness in material possessions, but this happens only to those who, after passing through life, didn’t understand what life is all about in the end. Maybe some of them lost touch with the really important things, but do we, the new generation, have any clue about what those things are? Old people can be unhappy, but there are some of them who understand what life is, and they enjoy it. They find a reason to be happy in every simple thing. Can we do the same?

Nowadays the old has lots to learn from the young in what concerns new technology, new ideas and things meant to ease our life. In the modern world, it is vital to enjoy your free time, to relax and to forget about the stressing hours you have to spend at work. Because are values and principles are lower than at the past generation, enjoyment is no more sinful. At least this is the idea that everybody seems to agree with. But is it not only because everybody likes this idea of freedom? The excuse for the freedom the young generation claims is often found in the expression: “Live the moment”. The emphasis now is on the present, not on the past and not even on the future. This difference was made possible because of the freedom led to its extremis. The young mainly see the freedom to do anything they like, without understanding the responsibilities that come with this freedom. And the consequences are affecting both young and old.
